Who Is Eligible for Treatment?
Admission to the ARTC outpatient Drug-Free Treatment Program is open to persons
who are at least eighteen years old and are not in need of inpatient detoxification.
If the applicant's medical or psychiatric needs are beyond the scope of our
programmatic capacity, that applicant will be referred to a more appropriate program.
The applicant's primary substance(s) of abuse can be drugs and/or alcohol.
Individual Counseling
Each patient is assigned to a primary counselor who provides case management,
assists patients to address specific problems or concerns, and refers patients
to other staff or external agencies as appropriate. Family counseling may be
provided as appropriate. Patients are also assisted with obtaining public entitlements
Group Counseling
Patients participating in treatment stage groups, as well as specialized groups such as
Relapse Prevention, Health Education, Stress Managment, Women's Group, Couples Group,
Poly-Drug Group, Life Skills, Parenting, and the Vocational/Educational Workshop.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been demonstrated as an important tool in reducing the craving for
drugs, and to assist with detoxification and abstinence. All counselors are
trained acupunturists and offer this service every day under the supervision of a
licensed acupuncturist.
Medical Services
The medical staff (Physician and Physician Assistant) offers health care
and nutritional counseling as well as required medical
services. The Psychiatrist evaluates and coordinates the need for mental health
services, and provides services directly or through referral. The Social Work
Supervisor also provides mental health assessments, crisis intervention and
referral services.
Educational / Vocational Assessment and Placement
The Vocational Specialist and/or Educational Specialist asseses each
patient's educational/vocational strengths and aptitude, help patients
formulate career goals, refer to appropriate educational and vocational programs,
and assist in job placement.
Narcotics Anonymous (NA)
Voluntary NA groups are held on-site to incorporate the 12-Step principles of recovery
within the treatment plan. Referrals to outside meetings
are encouraged during treatment and aftercare.

Women's Services
Staff helps to identfy the special needs and concerns of women, and plans
specialized services to meet thses needs.
Child care
Supervised child care services are available in the Fort Greene Clinic
while the patients receive services.
Referral Services
Although comprehensive services are provided on-site, referrals are
made to those programs which provide services that may not be available
within the clinic, or to those programs that augment existing clinic
services, such as concurrent enrollment in a methadone treatment program.
HIV Services
On-site HIV testing and counseling is available to all patients. In addition,
the Health Educator provides HIV and other health counseling, both individually

Research
From time to time, patients will have the opportunity to participate in research
projects. Such participation may include completing quiestionnaires, being
interviewed by research staff, having access to medications for the
treatment of substance abuse, AIDS, TB, or other illnesses that are common
among substance users, or participating in special behavioral interventions.
Participation in research is always voluntary.
Recreation
On and Off-site recreation activities are provided to enhance socialization and
encourage active liesure time.

The RISE Drug-Free Treatment Program is currently offered at the following two clinics:
- Fort Greene Clinic in Brooklyn
- Third Horizon Clinic in Manhattan.
